When God is Silent

Are you going through certain things that are making you question where God is? Are you feeling lonely, dejected and helpless? Do you feel like being angry with God? Do you feel like He is far away, and not listening? Are you hurting? Are you in pain? Rest your heart, He has not forgotten you! He is only a prayer away!

Pain is universal, and everyone faces one form pain or the other along their path. I have had my share of painful moments, where I’ve had to cut all social ties, and coil in my shell, just to deal with my pain and sufferings. There has been times where I’ve gotten angry with God because, I felt like He was not there, but guess what He had been there all along. Psalm 27:10 says “when my mother and father forsake me, then the Lord will take me up”. Have you come to your wits end? Isaiah 41:10 says “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

Sometimes, we get busy in life that we unintentionally forget about God. Have you noticed that when we go through challenges, sometimes God is the last person on our checklist of helpers? It may not be true for you but, it’s certainly true in my case. So, in most cases, it’s not God who has neglected us, but, we have wandered away from Him. God should be our first resort in times of trials and tribulations.

Sometimes, we could be going through spiritual loneliness because, God wants to draw us back to Himself. How would you feel if you were in a relationship where you were the only person showing love and affection? Wouldn’t you want the other person to love you back? Yes, we are emotional beings, and wish for our love to be reciprocated. So, if we as mortals want to be loved back, and we are created in the image and likeness of God, wouldn’t you think that God could be hurt by our lack of love and appreciation for Him? Remember, the Bible said Jesus was tempted in every way and form like us. So sometimes, God pulls back so we can pursue Him like we pursue human relationships. So, don’t be dejected, God is only a prayer away.

At other times, He could be carrying you all along but your pains have clouded your imagination, so you fail to notice his arms around you. Don’t be sad, He’s right there, and only a prayer away! A poem for a rainy day; “Foot prints” by Carolyn Carty.

Foot prints

One night a man had a dream. He dreamed He was walking along the beach with the LORD. Across the sky flashed scenes from His life. For each scene He noticed two sets of footprints in the sand. One belonging to Him and the other to the LORD.

When the last scene of His life flashed before Him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of His life there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times of His life.

This really bothered Him and He questioned the LORD about it. LORD you said that once I decided to follow you, you'd walk with me all the way. But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why when I needed you most you would leave me.

The LORD replied, my precious, precious child, I love you and I would never leave you! During your times of trial and suffering when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you.
